Shootings Leave 6 Injured In Boston Over Weekend

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- A Roxbury man is due in court Monday, charged in a shooting just after midnight Saturday morning that sent four people to the hospital.

Anthony Sheffield, 30 of Roxbury, faces firearms charges and three counts of assault with intent to murder in connection with the Copeland Street shooting.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Ben Parker the shooting happened at a party--and that Sheffield was arrested shortly after a gun was found. Sheffield was arrested by members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force. Evans credited the quick work of his department in making the arrest.

"Great response by the gang unit, running towards the shots right away and bringing that person into custody," he said. "Our homicide unit, ballistic, and latent prints group has worked tirelessly, and they were able to connect that gun to the scene."

Another shooting late Friday on Cummins Highway in Mattapan sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries. He was shot in a car near a fast food restaurant. Then, late into Sunday night, a person walked into Boston Medical Center after having been shot in the area of Columbia Road in Dorchester.
