Kyrie Irving Won't Discuss Future Plans With Celtics

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- "My focus is just--it's still on winning a championship next year."

That was Kyrie Irving's message, over and over when discussing his future. It's not about him or the fact he'll be a free agent a year from now. Or even whether he's happy to be a Celtic. The All-Star just wants Banner 18 in 2019 after an injury-shortened season forced him to miss Boston's entire exciting playoff run.

But, if you're wondering if Irving's interested in signing an extension this offseason, he's not.

"No," he said. "It just wouldn't make any sense."

Irving's right. Signing a deal now as opposed to next summer could cost him up to 80 million dollars. So, he'd kinda prefer people stop inquiring about his plans.

"My hope is that maybe we could limit it to maybe one question a day on what I'll be doing next year," he joked. "That's my hope, but obviously, I can't always control that. But I think that you guys can feel my attitude is really just redemption next year. Really integrating myself with our team again, and really focus on winning a championship. That's the only thing I'm really worried about. Until I get to that point, then I can't really clearly concisely answer any questions. I'm pretty sure management and I will have a talk, but that talk won't happen now."
