WORCESTER, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A group of residents fighting to save an historic church in Worcester, is hoping to stop a planned demolition. the group is now suing the developer and has a court date Thursday
The Notre Dame Des Canadiens Church is slated to be demolished this summer, more than a decade after it closed.
However, the group called Save Notre Dame Alliance believes the demolition plan is illegal, because the developer which currently owns the property avoided a required impact review process by failing to notify the State Office of Energy and Environmental affairs and the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
A spokesperson for City Square tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that the company is reviewing the suit and will comment when appropriate.
