BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- A hot, humid weekend is in store--and state beaches are ready for the throngs of people expected to seek relief from the heat. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s.
DCR Aquatics Director Kevin Whalen told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope those beach parking lots will be full.
"July 4 is one of our busiest times of the year," he said. "They'll fill up very early, so get there early. Make sure you bring plenty of water for hydration, and also sunblock as well. And make sure that you're always watching your children. Have one person dedicated to watching your child or the children whenever they're around water."
'Whalen said lifeguards will be keeping a close watch on sunbathers.
"We're close to hiring 650 lifeguards for all our pools, beaches," he said. "Inland beaches and ocean beaches are fully staffed for this season, so we had a really great recruiting season. We've got a great team, well-trained, and we're really looking forward to a safe summer."
