BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Celtics will play at least five Summer League games in Las Vegas - tonight against the Sixers, tomorrow versus the Nuggets, and Monday opposite the Hornets. Then, tournament play.
There are some familiar names on Boston's roster, like Semi Ojeleye, Guerschon Yabusele, Jabari Bird, and Kadeem Allen. They all spent time with the C's last season. But we'll also get a look at new big man Robert Williams out of Texas A&M. The Celts first-round pick signed yesterday.
Assistant coach Jay Larranaga will run the bench in Vegas and, so far, he's been impressed by Williams' game.
"Been really really good, really focused," Larranaga said. "Picked up the points of emphasis that we had in practice yesterday very well. Seems very coachable. You know, this is the beginning of a process for him."
You probably know by now, but Williams overslept for his introductory conference call, then missed his first practice after missing a flight to Boston. So, poor first impression for the 27th pick. But, the 20-year-old is a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year with a great ability to block shots, rebound, and he can score in the paint. Williams will wear his new boss Danny Ainge's old number 44.
