Teen Drowns In North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO (WBZ-AM) -- A teenager from Providence, Rhode Island drowned in a pond in North Attleboro late Sunday afternoon.

The boy was with his family, who reported him missing in Whiting Pond. Divers and other rescue crews spent about 90 minutes searching the muddy waters before finding his body about 30 feet offshore.

"They didn't see him in the water anymore," North Attleboro Fire Chief Michael Brousseau said. "Nobody was really sure if he was definitely even in the water, but unfortunately, that's where we located his body."

The 25-acre pond has a town beach, but there are no lifeguards on duty. This was the seventh fatal drowning in Massachusetts in the past month.
