BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Red Sox lead the majors at 68-and-30. They're on pace for a franchise-record 112 wins. Fans have quickly become spoiled by the success, including one huge fan and Boston legend David Ortiz.
He told NESN All-Stars Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez are incredible.
"I've been watching this year more games than what I have, and I gotta tell you, my boys, they ain't playing, brah" he said. "These guys, often, it's just ridiculous. We have years where we attack, we have that type of offense. But it's like, you're expecting 2-3 hits from Mookie and J.D. every night. You guys are getting people used to that!"
So what does Big Papi think it'll take to win the East, since the Yankees are only four-and-a-half games back?
"To be honest, the way the Yankees and the Red Sox are playing right now, that's going to go down to at least a hundred wins," Ortiz said. "It seems like before, you have a better Baltimore, a better Blue Jays, a better Tampa. But now, it seems like every time the Yankees and the Red Sox play, those three teams are like, okay, we are winning."
Boston and New York have 10 meetings left.
