BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- All-Star Mookie Betts is having a ridiculous season for the Red Sox.
He leads baseball with a .359 average and .691 slugging percentage. He's first in OPS, second in on-base percentage, second in runs, and fourth in stolen bases. The outfielder's 23 homers also place him in a tie for seventh, and already one short of last year's total. Over the last 19 games, Betts is batting .425 with a dozen extra-base hits and an absurd .528 OBP.
Betts is good! Boston legend David Ortiz agrees, but also told NESN he expects even more from the 25-year-old sensation.
"He is always hungry," Ortiz said. "Like, this guy, even when he's doing well, he wants to do better. That's the kid that I saw coming up with us. Sometimes people believe that in the game, you only learn from the veterans. No, you learn from guys like him."
Betts and the Sox will open a six-game trip in Detroit tomorrow.
