BRAINTREE (WBZ-AM) -- The winning $522 million Mega Millions ticket was sold out on the west coast--but there were some local lotto winners in last night's drawing, too.
The big prize was won at Ernie's Liquors in San Jose, California. Kawal Sachdev, the store's owner, said he couldn't be happier that one of his customers won.
"I'm so happy for the person who won the lottery here, and I'm happy for us to, you know, the employees and everybody, that we were the lucky store to issue a ticket which is a winning ticket," Sachdev said.
In Massachusetts, there were two tickets that matched all but the Mega Ball, a prize worth $1 million. One of those players played the Megaplier, which tripled the prize--making it worth $3 million.
This was the fifth-largest Mega Millions jackpot in the game's history. The largest was a $656 million jackpot won March 30, 2012 in Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland.
