BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo received attention for all the wrong reasons this week after going on a very public date in Beverly Hills with adult film star Kiara Mia. The former Patriots QB reported to training camp, and his new coach Kyle Shanahan said Garoppolo will have to better learn how to handle more intense media scrutiny.
"You know, Jimmy came from a place where he saw a lot of people handle that spotlight and everything, so I think Jimmy does have an idea," Shanahan said. "I think everybody has an idea of how you should handle that spotlight, but not everyone's in that spotlight. I never in my life commented on a player's date in July, so I'm not gonna start today, because I don't think it really pertains or matters to us. I do think that's a good example, even though you know, sometimes you gotta learn how under the microscope we all are. It's all players--the quarterback definitely gets more than anyone else--but I think that's a good learning experience for him, and he's gotta know what comes with that stuff."
Garoppolo admitted he's still getting used to all the extra attention.
"Life is different now," he said. "My life off the field, I've never really been big on being very public with things, even social media, I'm not out there a ton. My life's looked at differently, I'm under a microscope. It's like Kyle said, it is a good learning experience. Just have to take it in stride--I mean, it is what it is."
That last part sounds familiar.
