BOSTON (AP) — Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley has picked up a major endorsement in her bid to unseat incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano.
Attorney General Maura Healey, also a Democrat, said in a letter to her supporters on Monday that Pressley "shares our values, and our priorities." Healey noted that she has worked with Pressley for years on issues including racial profiling, predatory lending and sexual violence.
Pressley says she's deeply honored by what is perhaps her highest-profile endorsement to date in Massachusetts.
Pressley is challenging Capuano, who has served in the House since 1999, in the Sept. 4 Democratic primary in the state's 7th Congressional District.
Capuano has also received a number of endorsements from well-known Democrats, including Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and former Gov. Deval Patrick.
