MILLBURY, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Some Millbury High School students have been reprimanded for sharing a chat message with a racial slur.
It was a chat message that contained a racial slur and was circulated among several girls on Instagram. A girl who was not in on the exchange hacked into the online chat, took a frame shot of the slur and forwarded that to yet another girl.
Millbury Police Chief Don DeSorcy says there was plenty of blame to spread around.
DeSorcy called the students, all girls, and their parents in for a conversation, hoping it would serve as a teachable moment.
None of the girls will be charged, the chief says the incident didn't rise to the level of a hate crime. but he says he hopes it serves as a lesson to all about what's not acceptable, online or in any other public forum
