WORCESTER (WBZ-AM) -- A Shrewsbury man was arraigned in Worcester District Court Friday in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in Lake Quinsigamond last weekend.

Joseph Dalrymple, 33, faces charges of strangulation or suffocation in the death of 38-year-old Marlene Bleau. Dalrymple was ordered held without bail.

Authorities haven't yet revealed how Dalrymple knew Bleau, or the victim's exact cause of death.

Local officials initially thought Bleau drowned in the lake, after her body was found face down in the area of Coburn Avenue and Bridle Path near Lake Park Sunday morning.

Her mother, Deborah Christensen, spoke with WBZ-TV. She said she plans on being in court for the arraignment.

"She was a smart girl," she said. "She was a kind person. She would help anybody out, and that's always scared me, because you never know who's out there ... I'm just angry, very angry. I don't care what anybody does in life, they don't deserve to die by somebody else's hand."
