Power Problems On Blue Line Force Riders To Walk In Tunnel

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- It was a scary moment for passengers riding the MBTA Blue line Thursday.

Power problems left them stranded on trains were forced to walk through tunnels and passenger emergency stairwells underneath Boston Harbor after a power problem stopped the train line Thursday morning.

Tweets indicated that trains were stopped between Maverick and Government Center Stations

The MBTA tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that the line lost power to the third rail on the westbown track between Maverick and Aquarium Stations.

"Approximately 350 passengers were walked from the train to the emergency exit adjacent to Maverick Station.  This train had just departed Maverick when power was disrupted," the MBTA said in a statement.  The train had just departed Maverick when the power was lost.

Approximately 25 buses were providing supplemental service between Government Center and Maverick.

None of the passengers needed medical attention and Power was eventually restored according to MBTA Officials.
