Comm Ave and BU Bridges Re-Open As Planned

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts transportation officials have announced the re-opening of two bridges, meeting an expected deadline.

State Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver says the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge has opened to traffic at 5 a.m. Saturday, with all lanes on the Boston University Bridge opening by noon.

More than two weeks of almost continuous construction has caused major disruptions in the area.

Crews demolished portions of the westbound side of the Commonwealth Avenue bridge replacement project and put in new steel beams. The bridge now has a 17-foot-wide sidewalk and a bike lane.

Minor work will continue for the next few weeks during off-peak hours and may impact traffic on the Boston University Bridge.

Transit officials phased out bus shuttles between Blandford and Babcock subway stations on Friday.
