NORTHBRIDGE, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A little girl is fighting for her life -- after a freak car accident that could have been much worse. It happened in Northbridge on Tuesday. The car was traveling on Fowler road when it swerved to avoid an animal in the road.
Lt. Timothy Labrie says once officers arrived on the scene, the found the family's car hit the end of a guardrail. The crash sent the rail into the front and rear passenger seats.
Labrie says a few inches more and this would have easily been a double fatal accident.
"We always stress to keep your veichle on the road at all times," said Labrie " There's more harm off the road then hitting a small animal," he said.
The child underwent surgery late Tuesday night and her father remains hospitalized as well. The woman driving, the child's step-mother has been released from the hospital.
