DANVERS (24/7 NewsSource) -- A long-time teacher and coach at Saint John's Preparatory School is on administrative leave amid an investigation of child sex abuse.
Brother Robert Flaherty is accused of sexually abusing a minor in Baltimore in the mid-1980's. That allegation is under investigation in Maryland. In a statement, the Catholic school in Danvers says the investigation does not involve anyone connected with Saint John's or relate in anyway to Flaherty's time there.
Saint John's Prep Head Minister Dr. Edward Hardman told WBZ-TV the school will update parents with more information as soon as authorities in Baltimore complete their investigation.
"We were committed, as soon as we found out, to make sure that our community was aware of what's happening, and also to remove Brother from this time of service here, and working for the Xaverian Brothers," Hardman said. "What's important for us is to be up front about what did happen, and continue our commitment to educating ourselves, educating our faculty to what's out there to help us prevent this type of abuse and misconduct from happening moving forward."
Flaherty has been working at Saint John's for sixteen hears, where he taught computer science. He was placed on leave Saturday.
