BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Red Sox will open a two-game set with the Marlins tonight at Fenway at 7 p.m. with Brian Johnson on the mound, and Boston's starters have posted an ERA near 7 their last eight turns.

Help may be on the way.

Eduardo Rodriguez injured his ankle July 14th and he's been sidelined since, but the lefty looked sharp again in his second rehab outing for Double-A Portland last night.

Four shutout innings, two hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. He fell behind in a number of counts, but still produced outs. That had to feel good.

“That’s a part I was a little bit concerned about, because I was getting like 2-0, 3-0 counts,” Rodriguez said. “The good thing was I was able to get us outs.”

So, two starts--eight scoreless frames. Is he ready to return to Boston?

"Yeah, but we'll see what they're gonna do and what they're thinking, and we'll go from there."

Rodriguez will likely replace Chris Sale in the rotation until the ace's shoulder is better.
