EAST BRIDGEWATER, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Police in East Bridgewater a looking for the public's help in identifying a woman who abandoned a sick dog at the groomer's.
It happened on August 23 at the Secret Garden Pet Resort on Central Street when the woman dropped an older English brown and while bulldog and never returned.
That's when the groomer called Animal Control and the MSPCA.
Police there say The woman is described as having an eye patch covering her right eye. She has long red hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. She is believed to be in her mid-40s and about five-feet-six-inches tall. She was wearing a gray t-shirt with blue jeans.
The woman listed her name as Melanie Winchester with the groomer but when police ran the name in their database they could not find that name. She gave the name as William Katz for the dog.
Surveillance cameras at the groomer captured video of the woman, but it was unclear how she arrived at the business.
The dog was covered in pressure sores and suffering from skin, eye and ear infections when he first arrived.
A veterinarian who checked out the dog said that the dog’s ear infections are so severe that surgery will be needed to alleviate the pain he is experiencing.
