BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- JD Martinez says he didn't mean to offend anybody but instead used the quote attributed to Hitler: ” to conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens,” as a pro-gun message.

“In talking about it and you know at the time…you know I posted that I was you know second amendment at the time was you know a hot topic,” Martinez said.

Martinez who is Cuban American and pro second amendment says most of his family was run out of Cuba by a brutal dictator.

“You know I love my country I love this country and I just stand by the Constitution and I stand by you know the Second Amendment and it's something that you know I take pride in and you know it's something I'll back up.”

As far as this old post is concerned Martinez says here’s here to play baseball and doesn’t want the distraction. He’s worried about winning a championship.

“ I'm going to play baseball guys I'm not a politician I'm not here to talk about politics I'm here to help us win,” he said.
