METHUEN, MA (WBZ-AM) --  The Superintendent of Methuen schools has stepped down.  Judy Scannell resigned Thursday following reports that she wasn't properly licensed for the position.

The 4-decade educator previously held state certification as both a teacher and administrator but those lapsed in 2015.

Some members of the school committee voiced continued support for Scannell who said in her resignation that her efforts to serve the school district were clouded.

Bradni Kwong has been installed as the Acting Superintendent.
