BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- It was quite the surprise for some cruise line passengers at Black Falcon Terminal who learned their destination changed. Because of Hurricane Florence, the Norwegian Dawn, which had been scheduled to go from Boston to Bermuda, was rerouted to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick.
One family drove from Canada to Boston--only to find out they're heading back home. Susan Bonner told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe that she and her seven family members are from the two ports of call.
"We're going back to our hometowns," she said. "There's no type of reimbursement from the cruise ship, so, we either lose the whole almost $6,000 and go home, or we take the cruise and make the best of it--which is what we've decided to do."
Bonner said she swapped out her swimsuits and shorts for socks and sweaters.
It was supposed to be a very special trip for Ryan Briggs and Tricia Reposa of Mattapoisett, but they're making the most of it.
"It's a reason to book a second honeymoon," Ryan said. "It'll be nice though. Neither of us have been to Halifax ... maybe a couple other options other than going to Canada instead of a tropical island would be nice."
