SOMERVILLE (WBZ-AM) -- Police in Somerville are looking for a man who was allegedly caught desecrating American flags at a veteran's memorial.

George Gatteny told WBZ-TV he was stuck in traffic on Broadway in Somerville on Monday when he saw a man pull four flags off the ground at the Somerville Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The man then allegedly dropped the flags behind the World War Two Memorial Monument and urinated on them.

"He started undoing his pants, taking himself out, and making motions that would appear to be urinating," he told WBZ-TV. "I was outraged, I couldn't believe what I was seeing."

Gatteny said he then decided to pull over and confront the man. He documented the experience in a Facebook post that has since gathered over 14,000 comments.

"I started yelling and screaming, drawing attention, 'What are you doing? What are you doing here?'" he told WBZ-TV. "They were laughing and walking slowly, and thought it was a joke. As he walked by me, he had a smirk on his face--almost like, 'There's nothing you can do. What are you gonna do?'"

Gatteny grabbed his cell phone and snapped a photo of the soaking wet flags on the ground. Then, he followed the man and his female companion to a nearby address. He said he gave police all this information, and hopes the man is arrested.

Somerville Police said the man is a "person of interest."
