Arrest Made In Mass Pike Sexual Assault In Brimfield

BRIMFIELD (WBZ-AM) -- Massachusetts State Police said they an arrest has been made after investigating a sexual assault that happened early Wednesday morning.

In a statement, State Police, a 38-year-old woman walked out of the woods along the Massachusetts Turnpike in near the Palmer- Brimfield line around 5:30 a.m., flagged down a passing tractor-trailer, and told the driver she had been sexually assaulted.

Troopers and EMTs were dispatched to the scene, and the woman was taken to Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. Her condition was not yet known.

Police say they learned that the woman was held against her will, assaulted and strangled inside a camping trailer in Palmer.

During their investigation, Police say that in their search of the woods near the Massachusetts Turnpike, Troopers found evidence which led them to the trailer parked on Flynt Street in Palmer. After identifying Collins as a suspect and interviewing him he was placed under arrest. 

He is expected to be arraigned at Palmer District Court Wednesday.
