MARSHFIELD, MA (WBZ-AM) -- State and local police, along with a SWAT team, were hunting for a gunman on the South Shore in Marshfield Monday evening.
Police tell WBZ NewsRadio1030's David Cedrone that a man driving in a white SUV shot a woman, and then ran her over. Fire officials say the woman was hurt and taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries. Her condition is unknown.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., police issued an active shooter alert through their social media channels and a reverse phone notification. They also set up a 4-mile radius search perimeter near ABC Equipment and a women's shelter off Main Street.
Police are asking residents nearby to stay inside and lock their doors.
The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing is assisting in the search of a wooded area for the suspect.
WBZ NewsRadio1030 spoke with Peggy, a bartender at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8345 located a half-mile away. "Somebody called with a police radio and said he heard that there was a shooting then we had the reverse 9-1-1 call," she said.
The search area is located near Marshfield High School, where students participating in after-school activities were placed under lockdown for a brief period of time.
