MBTA Delaying Plans To Install Fare Gates

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The T and Keolis--the company which runs the Commuter Rail--will delay plans to install fare gates.

The gates were to be installed at Commuter Rail platforms this fall, requiring riders to prove they paid their fares before boarding trains--but The Boston Globe reports those plans have been put on hold until a new all-electronic pay method is installed across the entire transit system. That is due to happen in 2021.

The MBTA says fare evaders cost the T millions of dollars each year.
