BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- An American Airlines flight headed to Boston from Phoenix had to be diverted to Kansas City--all because of an unruly passenger onboard.

Witnesses said a man who was travelling with a woman and two dogs became abusive to flight attendants. They said the man appeared to be intoxicated or on drugs, refused to sit down, and even did pull-ups in the aisles.

Passenger David Markowski described the scene on board the plane.

"The flight attendant probably asked him about three or four times to sit down, and he refused to sit down," Markowski said. "Then he really got verbally abusive with her, started calling her names."

When the plane landed in Kansas City, the man was escorted off by security. There was no word on whether or not he faced any charges.

The flight eventually landed in Boston around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday--an hour later than scheduled.
