James White, Sony Michel Lead Patriots Offense

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- With Rex Burkhead placed on injured reserve and the Patriots reportedly exploring a reunion with free agent running back Mike Gillislee, New England has flashed a two-man tandem out of the backfield with primary runner Sony Michel and pass catching back James White.

Through five weeks, Michel leads the Pats with 294 rushing yards among his 312 yards from scrimmage, including two touchdowns. White is second on the roster for receiving with 270 yards on 42 catches and four touchdown receptions, both ranked first on the squad. He's also run for 110 yards and a score.

No New England player, not even Rob Gronkowski, has more total yards than Michel or White.

"It's not just us, we have a good group of guys that are very versatile," White told reporters. "One week it may be one of us, one week it may be two of us. You never really know how it's gonna go, we just try and make the most of our opportunities, and try to help this offense go."

Michel was complimentary of the supportive locker room environment. "The guys I'm around does a great job of complimenting me to keep my confidence up" the rookie said. "I'm blessed to be around guys like James White, the offensive line, Tom and them. It's amazing."
