State Announces $40M In Additional Road, Bridge Funding

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts has announced an additional $40 million in funding to cities and towns across the state for road construction and transportation improvement projects.

The money was included in a supplemental budget signed by Gov. Charlie Baker on Tuesday and brings the total of so-called Chapter 90 funding to $240 million for the fiscal year.

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito says the money will allow local leaders to prepare now so that projects are "shovel ready" for the spring construction season.

Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack says it helps communities meet what they consider "critical" infrastructure needs.

Funding for each municipality is predetermined by a formula that includes factors such as population, road miles and employment.

Boston received the most in the latest round, almost $3 million.
