NEEDHAM, MA (WBZ-AM) — An Uber driver ordered out a Needham elderly couple mid-ride.
At 87 years old, Maya and Isak Kayserman do not drive anymore. Two weeks ago their son arranged for an Uber to drive them home from the dentist in Needham. During the ride, Maya questioned the driver’s route, telling him he was going the wrong way. That’s when the driver stopped the car mid-way home and ordered them out.
“Then he stopped and talked on the phone … to my son and told him we were supposed to go out from the car. And my son, he called me, he told me [to] sit in the car and don’t go out from the car,” Maya Kayserman said.
The driver called the police. The responding officer ended up taking a couple home.
“We regret this situation and have been in touch with the rider and her son. We take incidents like this seriously and will take the appropriate action," Uber said in a statement regarding the incident.
For now, the family is relying on Lyft to get around.
