BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Red Sox have three Gold Glove winners!
AL MVP favorite Mookie Betts won his third in a row in right field, and Jackie Bradley Junior was finally honored for his defensive contributions in center after being a finalist in 2014 and 2016.
And, also Ian Kinsler--which is interesting since, when people hear Kinsler and defense right now, they generally think of his tough error in the World Series. That's just a footnote now, of course.
To be fair, the second baseman was elite. Kinsler led the league in runs saved and a range of other defensive metrics but, it's a "what have you done for me lately" world--so social media users had fun with the announcement, with such comments as "awkward"..."HOW?"..."that's ironic"..."it says gold glove, not gold arm," and a variety of gifs of people looking wildly perplexed or shaking their heads.
Just imagine the reaction had Boston lost the series.
