BOSTON, Mass (WBZ-AM) — J.D. Martinez - almost shockingly - isn't a finalist for American League Most Valuable Player.
His Red Sox teammate Mookie Betts is - and he's considered the favorite to win. Other candidates are Angels star Mike Trout and Indians slugger Jose Ramirez.
It's not difficult to make a case Martinez belongs in the group ahead of Ramirez, and his agent Scott Boras is emphatic about it.
Boras said every voter should be brought publicly into a forum and be taken to task for their negligence. There's a complete breach of understanding of the value of the player.
Boras expanded on those thoughts at the general managers' meetings in California.
Martinez hit a career-high .330 with 43 home runs and a personal-best 130 RBI.
