BOSTON, Mass (WBZ-AM) —  Another busy night on tap in Boston sports, with the Bruins home to host the Canucks and the Celtics out in Phoenix, but those are just regular season games. Around here, baseball fans are still excited about a World Series win, and the Yankees' general manager weighed in.

Red Sox won 119 games by the end of their championship season, including a team-record 108 in Alex Cora's first year as an MLB manager.

Their playoff run included wins over the Dodgers and Astros - last year's World Series finalists - and, of course, a four-game ousting of their rival, 100-win Yankees.

Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman tipped his cap at this week's general managers' meetings.

“They had something special clearly with their group and they were able to reinforce that specialness not just in the regular season, but in the postseason as well and we missed the opportunity in winning the division there in the regular season. So I was looking forward to taking our shot in the postseason to change that narrative but they had none of it. They took us out and moved forward and they took everybody out in front of them.  So they were just unstoppable. So how that translates as we move forward? We'll see — but a lot of great talent on that team. A lot of good people on the team tremendous competitors. You don't have to like them but you have to respect them,” Cashman said.

As for next year and making up ground on Boston, New York re-signed starter C.C Sabathia, but reportedly won't pursue Washington free agent outfielder Bryce Harper, who recently rejected a 10-year, $300 million dollar offer from the Nationals.
