BOSTON, Mass (WBZ-AM) — Local nightclub venues are always revisiting their security, but even more so in the wake of the mass shooting in California.

Ned Wellbury is the manager of the manager of the middle east nightclub in Cambridge --- and after learning of the deadly attack in California. He had a question.

Could it happen here?

Wellbury tells WBZ-TV keeping their customer secure is a priority and how they do that is often reviewed.

Being up to code on emergency exits and having panic bars on doors that push out are part of that.

And though there are security guards and patdowns there still are limitations.

Advice for those who do go out and into clubs or other venues.

WBZ security analyst Ed Davis says in such venues having a feel for your surroundings is important if you need to make a quick exit

It is possible in an emergency situation, you may not be able to leave, the same way you came in.

WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Ben Parker (@RadioBenParker) reports.
