BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- That time-honored tradition of the holiday office party appears to be on the decline. Andy Challenger of executive outplacement firm Challenger, Gray, & Christmas, Inc., said times are changing.
"Surprisingly, only 65 percent of companies that we surveyed are planning to have a holiday party this year," he said.
Challenger said that, while the economic conditions may be right for a workplace shindig, social conditions aren't.
"Certainly, companies are worried about potential lawsuits stemming from inappropriate behavior that happens, typically, at holiday parties when it's after-hours, when there's alcohol flowing," he said.
