BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — MassDot is testing a new lane configuration on Storrow Drive to see if it will help traffic flow. Some commuters said the change has caused confusion.

The new lane configuration occurs west bound on Storrow Drive by Massachusetts General Hospital. Some find the lane change to be abrupt, despite road markings.

“Better signage might help,” one driver said on how to make the new lane configuration less of a surprise.

In a statement, MassDot said the lane markings have been updated on a pilot basis so it can be determined whether these changes improve traffic flow, and that it is important to evaluate actual conditions and driver behavior.

MassDot will be holding a press briefing Tuesday afternoon to discuss the updated traffic pattern on Storrow Drive and offer tips for motorists.
