LAWRENCE, Mass. (WBZ-AM) — Columbia Gas said that almost every home affected by the gas explosions in September has been relit. This excludes a few meters and those individuals who hired their own contractors.

Out-of-state workers are now going home, according to Columbia Gas spokesman Scott Ferson.

“A lot of them worked through Thanksgiving, who are not from here and were away from their families,” Ferson said. “Both the crews that have come in that have completed the gas lines early, have been working on the houses. Plumbers were flown in from California — I think there’s been plumbers from 47 states.”

Over 260 families remain in temporary housing. Most have homes that are too damaged to live in. More work will continue in the spring.
