CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ-AM) — A report released by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Thursday does not recommend cutting ties with Saudi Arabia, after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Associate Provost Richard Lester’s recommendation came after the school’s president asked him to review MIT’s connections with Saudi Arabia.
Lester said that none of the Saudi groups that give money to the school played a role in the Khashoggi murder.
“Even recognizing the actions, atrocious actions one would have to say, of the leadership of the Saudi government. We are working with, and for many years, we have worked with good people,” Lester said.
MIT President Rafael Reif will make the final decision on whether the school will cut ties with Saudi Arabia. Students and faculty have until Jan. 5 to offer their opinion.
