WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBZ-AM) — President Donald Trump announced Saturday he is picking Winchester native Gen. Mark Milley as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. If confirmed by the Senate, Milley will be taking over for Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford.

Dunford is from Quincy, Mass., making Milley the second Massachusetts native appointed to the post by President Trump.

In a tweet Saturday, Trump wrote that Dunford will be retiring. According to the Associated Press, Dunford’s term is set to end Oct. 1.

“I am thankful to both these incredible men for their service to our Country! Date of transition to be determined,” Trump wrote in a tweet.
