Petition To Recall Fall River Mayor Correia Certified

FALL RIVER (WBZ-AM) — The more than 4000 petition signatures collected in an effort to recall Fall River mayor Jasiel Correia are certified and now being sent to the city council.

The 27-year-old 2nd term mayor pleaded not guilty back in October to charges of defrauding investors and filing false tax returns.

Many city councilors have been calling for  Correia to resign since his indictment including Leo Pelletier "Jasiel do the right thing for the City of Fall River, for your family, step down," he said.

The over 4,000 signatures are nearly double what is needed to set off a recall election. The next step the city council will vote and then give Correia five days to step down.

If he refuses, a recall election will be scheduled.
