Columbia Gas Responds To Federal Safety Recommendations

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — A month after Federal officials issue recommendations to Columbia Gas after the Merrimack Valley Gas explosions and fires — they respond.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued recommendations to the company Nov. 14. Columbia Gas’ parent company NiSource wrote to the NTSB chair that the company is committed to addressing the recommendations, and they have begun implementing changes.

Columbia Gas also said it has spent $150 million on slam shut valves to prevent another pressurization disaster.

The NTSB called on NiSource to ensure that the company's contractors are more closely monitored.
