Deja Vu For Some Newbury College Students Left In Lurch

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) — It's a double whammy for at least four students at Braintree’s Newbury College — stunned by the news the school would be closing at the end of next semester.

It's not the first time they've been dealt the hard to swallow reality.

For Samantha Marshall, she was no stranger to being told her school was closing.

The interior design student from South Boston was among students who got that bad news from Mt. Ida College earlier this year.

She transferred to Newbury College to continue her studies after Newbury officials recruited Mt. Ida students left in the lurch.

Her mother Barbara Marshall tells WBZ NewsRadio that they received the stunning news in Friday’s newspaper

Marshall says she’s angry at  Newbury college officials at the decision to close

“I would just say shame on them that they would prey on the kids that had no literally no notice at Mt. Ida…my daughter that’s a Newbury, was only there for a semester. She transferred just in time for it to close...now to put her through this again is just totally horrific...and unfair,” Barbara Marshall said.

While Samantha can stay at Newbury for one final semester in the spring before the school closes their doors for good, she has to look for yet another school.

WBZ NewsRadio’s Mike Macklin reports.
