HOPKINTON (WBZ-AM) -- The town of Hopkinton has closed schools for the day after a tree fell on power lines, knocking out power to the area overnight.
Gusty winds combined with icy conditions tore down trees and wires across the state, including on Ash Street in Hopkinton.
Hopkinton's high, middle, and elemenary schools are all closed for the day.
Another tree crashed into a house nearby. Nobody was injured.
At the worst of it, nearly 700 customers in town lost power. As of 1 p.m., there were over 400 customers without power across the whole state, according to MEMA's outage map.
