Shewsbury Dealing With Water Woes

SHREWSBURY, MA (WBZ-AM) — Despite a new high-tech water treatment plant in place in Shrewsbury some residents and businesses are complaining about the quality of the water.

Some residents and business owners are complaining that smelly discolored water continues to spew from the faucets of homes and businesses across town.

Resident Dennis Mastro says the water tank in his toilet is still stained with a ring of black. He's one of many Shrewsbury residents complaining about persistent discolored, smelly water, despite a modern, new water treatment plant going online in October.

“I have a chemical that you pour in it to clean it. I've done it in July and you can see now in December it's completely black again and it was white,” he said.

The town says the continued water woes are a normal part of the plant's adjustment process. T hey insist the water is safe but another town resident Elaine Zingarelli isn't taking any chances.

She's using bottled water.

I'm carting water from the market in half gallons. I don't use the water for coffee,  I used the bottled water," she said "I question how safe the [town] water is." she said.
