BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- It's the day after Christmas, and a lot of people have items they didn't quite want to receive. Don't worry--we've got some tips on how to get the most from your holiday returns.
First of all, today might be busy at your favorite stores, as many other people will be returning items themselves.
Edgar Dworsky, founder of Consumerworld.org, tells WBZ NewsRadio's Ben Parker that, if you must go to the stores, maybe hold off on the returns, at least for today.
"Many stores have these extended holiday return periods, so you can bring back goods mid-to-late January very often," he said. "So I say, avoid the lines today, go grab those 50 percent off sale items instead."
If you are stuck in line, make good use of that time, Dworsky said.
"Read the store's policy so you get a sense--am I asking for something that's within the four corners of it, or am I asking for a favor and have to be especially nice?" Dworsky said. "And you certainly want to bring in the receipt or the gift receipt, that way you'll get full value or full merchandise credit."
