Man Dead After Cohasset Police Use Taser To Subdue Him

COHASSET (WBZ-AM) -- A man died in Cohasset Police custody Thursday night after officers used an electric stun gun to subdue him.

The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said in a release that Cohasset Police responded to a disturbance on Church Street around 10 p.m. to find resident Erich Stelzer, 25, attacking a 24-year-old woman with a knife.

"In an effort to rescue the victim and disarm Stelzer, Cohasset Police Officers used tasers to subdue Stelzer," the DA's office said in their release.

They said that Stelzer received treatment right away from EMTs, and became unresponsive while being transported to a local hospital and died.

The woman "sustained extensive stabbing and slashing injuries," the release read. Her condition was not yet known.

State Police, crime scene services, and the Chief Medical Examiner's Office are investigating to determine the exact cause of Stelzer's death.
