BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) — With thousands of workers being furloughed or forced to work without pay during the government shutdown, Senator Ed Markey has some serious questions for the Federal Aviation Administration during this government shutdown.

One of Senator Markey's main concerns - is the FAA conducting all the necessary safety inspections of airplanes?

He's worried because thousands of vital safety inspectors have been placed on furlough for weeks - deemed non-essential.

Some of those inspectors and engineers are now being recalled. But the FAA New England's Safety Program manager Stephen Brown says he shares the senator's concerns

Brown says it's a good first step for the FAA to recall inspectors and engineers, to ensure the continued operational safety of the nation's entire air space.
