PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Senate President Dominick Ruggerio has introduced a bill to allow mobile wagering for sports betting in Rhode Island.
The top Democrat in the state Senate introduced it Wednesday. Expanding sports betting is one of his top priorities.
Ruggerio says mobile gambling would be convenient and generate more revenue. Rhode Island receives 51 percent of sports betting revenue.
Twin River Casino in Lincoln became the first in New England to accept bets on professional sports in November.
Ruggerio's bill would enable the creation of an app that people could use to access the sports betting offerings at Twin River from anywhere in Rhode Island.
He says accounts would have to be created in person at Twin River's Lincoln or Tiverton casino, where staff could verify a person's age.
