PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Two observatories in Rhode Island are inviting the public to visit to see the total lunar eclipse.
The Community College of Rhode Island will host a viewing at the observatory at its Warwick campus Sunday night. Visitors can use the college's reflecting telescope. Cloudy or rainy skies will cancel the event. The observatory isn't heated. Scheduling information is posted online .
The Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island will also be open Sunday night. It will show a livestream inside and have telescopes setup outside. The main telescope will be closed.
The moon, Earth and sun will line up this weekend for the only total lunar eclipse this year and next. The moon will be ever so closer to Earth and appear slightly bigger and brighter than usual, known as a supermoon.
