BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — At Boston's 2019 Tết celebration, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said that steps are being taken to potentially create a proposed Vietnamese cultural district in Dorchester.
"For years, the Vietnamese community in Dorchester has been wanting to create a cultural district in Fields Corner — a Little Saigon,” Walsh said. "What we announced today is we’re going to put together an advisory committee on how we would make something like that happen, and take the next steps toward making that a reality."
The Vietnamese community in Boston is celebrating Tết — the Lunar New Year — Saturday.
“It’s a community gathering. We have a big Vietnamese community here in Boston and it’s a time for us to all get together and celebrate our shared culture,” attendee Julia Do said.
The holiday is on Feb. 5.
